'Galaxy Z6' Delivered Quickly to Islands... Samsung's First Domestic Drone Delivery

Consumers in island regions can now receive Samsung Electronics' new foldable phone 'Galaxy Z6' series via drone delivery. This is the first drone delivery service for mobile products in Korea.

On the 16th, Samsung Electronics announced that starting from the 19th, it will provide drone delivery services for the foldable phones 'Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6' to islands near Jeju, Yeosu, and Tongyeong. This service is conducted in collaboration with the 'Drone Demonstration City Construction Project' led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, utilizing drone delivery infrastructure such as drones, takeoff and landing zones, and control systems established by local governments.

Drone delivery enables shipments even during logistics downtime after ship operations end, reducing product delivery time from about 7 days to one day. It also lessens the inconvenience for island consumers who previously had to visit stores to make purchases.

The drone delivery service was piloted last month in Jeju. Going forward, the delivery items will be expanded to include Galaxy mobile products such as smartphones, tablets, Buds, and watches weighing less than 10 kg.

In Jeju, drones take off from drone centers in Sangmo-ri and Geumnong within Jeju Island to deliver to three hubs: Gapado, Marado, and Biyangdo. In the Yeosu area, deliveries are made to Hwahado, Jedo, and Songdo, while in Tongyeong, deliveries cover Bisan-do, Jwa-do, and Manjido, with plans to expand delivery areas to more than 10 locations.

A Samsung Electronics official said, "The drone delivery service is a new attempt to provide fast and convenient Galaxy user experiences to consumers in island regions," adding, "As a leading artificial intelligence (AI) company, we will continue to develop new technologies and services to enhance consumer convenience and rights."
