A worker in his twenties was killed after being crushed by a steel block at a ship engine parts manufacturing plant in Seongsan-gu, Changwon, Gyeongnam.
According to the Changwon Jungbu Police Station, at around 11 a.m. on the 15th, a block intended for a ship engine room cover fell directly onto the worker in his twenties.
The block is reported to measure 2 meters wide and 5 meters long, weighing approximately 1.7 tons.
Worker A, an employee of a subcontractor who was performing welding work on the block, was pinned under the fallen block and died at the scene.
The police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident and look into possible professional negligence, as well as violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, by questioning plant officials and others involved.
