YouTuber 'Ssoi' with about 620,000 subscribers
"Earns at least 5 million won, up to 15 million won"
"Spends as much as earned... cost-effectiveness is low"
Recently, travel YouTubers have been gaining popularity, and one travel YouTuber with 620,000 subscribers revealed their YouTube earnings. They disclosed that their monthly income can reach up to 10 million KRW, but due to the nature of the content, expenses are equally high.
Travel YouTuber 'Ssoi (31, Lee So-yeon)' recently uploaded a video titled "I will answer all the questions you have been curious about" on her channel. In the video, Ssoi shared a Q&A format addressing viewers' questions about her income and other topics.

Regarding her YouTube income, Ssoi said, "To be straightforward about my earnings in the first half of the year, it ranges from a minimum of $6,441.97 (approximately 8.87 million KRW) to a maximum of $13,634.21 (approximately 18.77 million KRW) per month." The average monthly income based on YouTube views from January to June this year was about $9,290 (approximately 12.79 million KRW).
She added, "It can be considered a small amount or a large amount depending on perspective," and revealed, "My monthly expenses range from about 8 million to 18 million KRW." According to the expenditure details she shared for February to July, her average monthly spending was about 10.12 million KRW. Ssoi explained, "So, you can think of the money I earn from YouTube as being spent right away every month."
She continued, "The reason I do advertisements is because I spend all the money I make from YouTube alone," and added, "I also need to save money and try to live prudently, so I accept external advertisements as well."
Furthermore, she said, "If you calculate based on YouTube's direct income, I think I am earning at least 5 million KRW steadily, and when I earn a lot, it can go up to about 15 million KRW." She explained, "For a YouTuber with 600,000 subscribers, if the views range between 100,000 and 200,000, and if I upload once a week and my subscribers watch for a long time, this kind of income is possible."
When asked if travel YouTubers make good money, she replied, "If you want to make money on YouTube, travel YouTubers are really not cost-effective," explaining, "It costs a lot of money, and just one trip can cost at least 1 million KRW." She added, "Only those who truly love traveling can 'long-run' with this type of content."
Ssoi passed the 25th Certified Labor Consultant exam in 2016, worked at a company until early 2018, then quit and started her YouTube activities in February of the same year. She uploads domestic and international travel content and currently has about 620,000 subscribers as of this date.
