LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam, Veteran Jockey Munro Makes Glamorous Comeback After 41 Years

57-Year-Old Veteran from the UK Brings New Energy to Korean Horse Racing with His Experience

Korea Racing Authority's LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam (Director: Eom Youngseok) announced on the 15th that British jockey Alan Munro (57) made a successful comeback by winning the 7th race at Busan-Gyeongnam on the 5th, riding the racehorse Daeseong Dream (Korea, male, 3 years old).

Following his comeback, Munro demonstrated his veteran skills by securing three more wins in the races held at Busan-Gyeongnam on the 12th and 14th.

This year, Munro is active at LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam. He obtained his jockey license in 1989, making this his 41st year as a jockey. He has competed not only in the UK but also in major racing countries such as France, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. In Korea, he was active at LetsRun Park Seoul from 2019 to March 2023, participating in 1,283 races and becoming well-known for his strong finishing ability.

Despite the reduction and suspension of races during his previous stint in Korea due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he achieved an average win rate of 11.3%. In 2020, he also won the Seoul Owners' Association Cup (G3), a major stakes race.

Currently, Munro is well past fifty, but during his prime, he was an internationally renowned jockey with an illustrious career, including victories in the 1991 Epsom Derby and Irish Derby, as well as the 2000 Hong Kong Cup.

With Munro's return to Korea, LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam now features Munro (57) as its oldest active jockey, while Park Taejong (58) holds that distinction in Seoul.

It is expected that these two veterans, with their wealth of experience, masterful skills, and thorough self-management, will have a positive impact on Korean horse racing and increase the excitement for spectators.
