Punggi Nonghyup Agricultural Products Auction House Targets Summer Fruit Market
The summer apple variety Aori (Tsugaru) has begun shipping from Yeongju, Gyeongbuk, the nation’s largest apple-producing region.
On the 15th, Yeongju City (Mayor Park Namseo) held an opening ceremony at the Punggi Nonghyup Agricultural Products Auction House to mark the official start of Aori shipments. Around 300 people, including local farmers, attended the event.
According to the city, following the opening of the Samyeong Agricultural Products Auction House on the 11th, the Punggi Nonghyup Auction House opened on this day, and on the 22nd, the Punggi Nonghyup Baeksin Branch, Daegu Gyeongbuk Neunggeum Nonghyup Buseok Economic Business Center, and Yeongju Agricultural Products Distribution Center will simultaneously begin auctions and purchases.
Aori is the earliest apple variety to be shipped. It is popular among consumers due to its high content of polyphenols, which help prevent skin aging, and dietary fiber, which aids in relieving constipation and indigestion.
Yeongju is the nation’s largest apple-producing region, with the Aori variety grown on a total of 265 hectares, yielding approximately 5,500 tons.
Lee Jaehun, Deputy Mayor of Yeongju, said, “Yeongju apples are cultivated in the clean region of Sobaeksan with abundant sunlight, giving them excellent taste and aroma. Their high sugar content and dense texture make them especially delicious. We will continue to support and manage production to maintain the reputation of Yeongju apples as the leading production area by delivering apples of even higher quality.”
The Punggi Nonghyup Auction House, where the opening ceremony was held, was officially upgraded from an ‘auction-style collection center’ to an ‘agricultural products auction house’ on the 4th. It features a spacious area of 4,231 square meters and a safe management and operation system.
Officials from Yeongju City are performing a ritual to pray for success at the opening ceremony of the Punggi Nonghyup Agricultural Products Market.
