This Year Expanded to 12 Schools Including Dorim Elementary, Dangjung Elementary, Daebang Elementary... Ongoing Discovery of Participating Schools

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will expand the operation of the ‘Children’s Traffic Safety Guidance Project’ to ensure the safe commute of elementary school students.
The ‘Traffic Safety Guidance Project’ is a program where traffic safety instructors accompany lower-grade elementary students to their homes to prevent child crimes and traffic accidents. It is also called a walking school bus, or ‘Walking Schoolbus.’
The project has received positive feedback from parents, so this year the district expanded the target to a total of 12 schools, including Dorim Elementary, Dangjung Elementary, Daebang Elementary, and Seonyu Elementary, by adding two more schools.
Additionally, compared to last year, seven more traffic safety instructors were selected, and currently, 22 instructors who have completed traffic safety training are actively working.
Traffic safety instructors are assigned 2 to 3 per school, considering route distance, number of students, and road hazards, with each instructor responsible for guiding up to eight students.
They also teach students beneficial traffic safety rules, such as obeying traffic signals.
The district focuses the project during the after-school hours when child traffic accidents occur most frequently, helping children return home safely and protecting them from various incidents and accidents to eliminate safety blind spots.
Meanwhile, to expand the scale of the Traffic Safety Guidance Project, the district is recruiting additional ‘traffic safety instructors’ who will protect children’s safety. The district is actively promoting the project and encouraging participation by sending notices about the additional recruitment of instructors to all elementary schools in the area. Going forward, the district plans to continuously discover participating schools and traffic safety instructors and make every effort to create a safe traffic culture.
The Traffic Safety Guidance Project does not operate during school vacations. For more details, inquiries can be made to the district office’s Traffic Administration Division.
In addition, the district is carrying out various projects to protect children’s safety, such as securing sidewalks in school zones and cracking down on illegal parking and stopping around elementary schools and child protection zones.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Together with the traffic safety instructors, we will protect children from various safety accidents and create a safe commuting route where both children and parents can feel at ease,” adding, “We will continue to discover various projects and provide unwavering support to establish a safe traffic culture.”
