Gyeonggi-do Provides 2 Billion KRW Disaster Management Fund in Advance for This Winter

Gyeonggi-do Provides 2 Billion KRW Disaster Management Fund in Advance for This Winter Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province will proactively support 2 billion KRW from the provincial disaster management fund to municipalities for the installation of automatic brine spraying devices necessary to prevent road black ice accidents during winter.

Road black ice is the main cause of winter traffic accidents on icy roads that are difficult to detect with the naked eye. Although snow removal vehicles are used for snow clearing on roads, emergency response is challenging with the existing methods. Therefore, automatic brine spraying devices will be installed on high-risk areas such as tunnel entrances, bridges, and slopes to enable safe and rapid operations.

The automatic brine spraying device is a system that remotely sprays deicing solution stored in a brine storage tank onto the road surface at high pressure to melt snow when snow removal is required due to heavy snowfall in winter.

In May, Gyeonggi Province conducted a demand survey targeting municipalities and, considering vulnerable sections to freezing and snow removal, finally selected 19 locations in 11 municipalities including Yongin and Goyang.

Choo Dae-woon, Director of the Natural Disaster Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Proactive response is important to prevent accidents caused by road black ice," and added, "The installation of automatic brine spraying devices will enable rapid initial snow removal response."
