Gyeonggi Province is conducting an education program on "Feeding and Disease Management to Prevent Winter Honeybee Disappearance" for beekeepers in the province to respond to the recent increase in mass honeybee deaths.

On the 16th, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 15th that it will provide education to about 120 beekeepers in the province at the Paradise Hall of Sher빌 Hot Spring Tourist Hotel in Gaegun-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, to effectively respond to the main causes of recent mass honeybee deaths during winter threatening the beekeeping industry, such as climate change, increased pests and diseases, environmental pollution, and improper feeding management.

The main education topics on the day include ▲ Introduction to the veterinary drug AZ and promotion of precautions for drug use ▲ Guidance on major support projects for the beekeeping industry ▲ Winter preparation feeding management (Dr. Park Boseon, National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Rural Development Administration) ▲ Winter disease management (Veterinarian Heo Juhaeng, Beekeepers Cooperative).

Lee Kangyoung, Director of the Livestock Animal Welfare Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Through this education, we hope beekeepers can prepare for problems during the honeybee wintering period, protect the health of honeybees, and minimize the occurrence of resistance," adding, "Since honeybee deaths have a significant impact on our agriculture and environment, we ask for the active participation and thorough management of all beekeepers."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province is supporting more than 5.7 billion KRW to strengthen the competitiveness of the beekeeping industry, including equipment for hornet control and support for the distribution of excellent queen bees. In addition, a 500 million KRW scale beekeeping disease prevention and quarantine project is also underway, supporting honeybee disease prevention and treatment drugs and disease management for beekeepers.
