Jeff Bezos Posts on X After 9 Months
Thanks for Trump’s Safety After Attack... Mourns Victims
Trump Expressed Past Complaints About Washington Post and Amazon
Bezos Says "Media Is Treated Like Criminals"
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and longtime adversary of former U.S. President Donald Trump, has broken his nine-month silence.
On the 13th (local time), Bezos posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Former President Trump showed tremendous grace and courage amid the shooting tonight," adding, "I am grateful that he is safe and offer my condolences to the victims and their families." Bezos had not been active on X for nine months since his last post in October 2023. In the U.S., this post drew attention due to Bezos's long-standing public feud with Trump. In 2019, when rumors of Bezos's divorce surfaced, Trump mocked him by calling him "Jeff Bozo," a slang term meaning "fool."
Former President Trump also criticized The Washington Post, owned by Bezos. In January 2019, upon hearing that The Washington Post was trailing its competitors, he said, "I am very sorry to hear that Jeff Bozo has been knocked down by competitors," adding, "As far as I know, the reporting from those competitors is much more accurate than the lobbying newspaper, 'Amazon Washington Post.'" He went on to say, "I hope this newspaper soon falls into better, more responsible hands." The day before, in a Fox News interview, Trump referred to Washington Post reporters as "lobbyists for Amazon's Jeff Bezos." In response, Jeff Bezos expressed dissatisfaction, saying, "They treat the press like criminals." After Amazon lost a $10 billion Department of Defense contract to Microsoft in 2021, the company acknowledged its feud with Trump in federal lawsuits. At that time, Amazon stated that Trump’s "repeated public and unofficial attacks" on Amazon and Bezos were the reasons for losing the contract.
