Cheers for 2 Consecutive Wins at Gunsan CC Open
Last Year's Amateur Champion, Prize Money of 195.85 Million Won
Jeong Han-mil 2nd Place, Jeong Tae-yang and Choi Seung-bin Tied for 3rd
Jang Yu-bin claimed his first victory since turning professional.
On the 14th, at the Gunsan CC Tournament Course (Par 72, 7,460 yards) in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, Jang finished the 4th round of the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour Gunsan CC Open by reducing one stroke to secure a 2-stroke victory (16-under 272). Jang Yu-bin, who won this tournament last year as an amateur, successfully defended his title. He turned professional after winning a gold medal in the team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games last October.
The total prize money for this tournament was finalized at 979,297,000 KRW. An additional 279,297,000 KRW from gallery admission fees, food and beverage sales, and souvenir sales from rounds 1 to 3 was added to the original 700 million KRW. The winner's prize money also increased by 55,859,400 KRW from the previous 140 million KRW to 195,859,400 KRW.
Jang started with a 3-stroke lead and recorded one eagle, four birdies, three bogeys, and one double bogey. After struggling and losing three strokes in the first eight holes, he changed the momentum with an eagle on the 9th hole (par 5) with a ‘2-on 1-putt’. He effectively secured the victory by making ‘stepping stone birdies’ on the 14th and 16th holes (both par 5s). He has shown a steep upward trajectory by finishing in the ‘top 3’ in three consecutive tournaments recently, including a runner-up finish at the Bizplay-Wonder Club Open on the 30th of last month. Before this tournament, he had participated in 11 events, finishing in the ‘top 10’ seven times, and finally collected his first winner’s trophy.
Jung Han-mil fought hard by reducing three strokes but was satisfied with 2nd place (14-under 274). Jung Tae-yang, Choi Seung-bin, and Cho Min-gyu performed well, tying for 3rd place (12-under 276). Jang Dong-gyu and Kim Min-gyu tied for 6th place (11-under 277), while Jung Jae-hyun, Lee Seung-taek, and Park Ji-min tied for 9th place (10-under 278). Choi Jin-ho and Seo Yo-seop finished tied for 13th place (8-under 280) to conclude the tournament.
