President Yoon Suk-yeol expressed his hope for a speedy recovery regarding the shooting attack on former U.S. President Donald Trump during an outdoor campaign rally, calling it a "horrific act of political violence."


On the afternoon of the 14th, President Yoon posted on the social networking service X (formerly Twitter), saying, "I am deeply shocked by this horrific political violence," and "I wish former President Trump a swift recovery."


He added, "The Korean people stand with the American people."


In this regard, Kim Soo-kyung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated in a written briefing, "Our government strongly condemns any form of political violence related to this attack."


She continued, "The matter was immediately reported to President Yoon, who expressed his sorrow and wished former President Trump a speedy recovery," and explained, "Our government consoles the American people who have been shocked by this incident, and the Korean people stand with the American people."

Former President Trump was escorted down from the podium by security personnel, during which blood was visible above his right ear and on his cheek.


The Trump presidential campaign later issued a statement through a spokesperson saying, "(Former President Trump) is okay and is being examined at a local medical facility."


Butler County Prosecutor Richard Goldinger told the Associated Press and others, "The person presumed to be the shooter is dead, and at least one other person died at the campaign site."
