President Yoon Suk-yeol expressed his hope for a speedy recovery regarding former U.S. President Donald Trump, who was shot during an outdoor campaign rally, calling it a "horrific act of political violence."
On the afternoon of the 14th, President Yoon posted on the social networking service X (formerly Twitter), stating, "I am deeply shocked by this horrific political violence," and "I wish former President Trump a swift recovery."
President Yoon added, "The Korean people stand with the American people."
Earlier, at 6:05 p.m. (Eastern Time) on the 13th, multiple gunshots suddenly rang out from somewhere during an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where former President Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, was campaigning.
After touching the back of his right neck with his right hand, former President Trump quickly ducked below the podium, and several security personnel rushed onto the stage to protect him.
Former President Trump was escorted down from the podium by security personnel, and at that time, blood was visible above his right ear and on his cheek.
The Trump presidential campaign later released a statement through a spokesperson saying, "(Former President Trump) is okay and is being examined at a local medical facility."
Butler County Prosecutor Richard Goldinger told the Associated Press and others, "The suspected shooter is deceased, and at least one other person has died at the rally site."
