When Will the Seoul Metropolitan Council's Second Half Organization Be Formed?

Attention on the outcome of the first official negotiation on the 15th between Lee Seong-bae, Floor Leader of the People Power Party, and Seong Heum-je, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party, for the second half leadership formation of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council

When Will the Seoul Metropolitan Council's Second Half Organization Be Formed?

Despite 14 days having passed since the start of the second half term of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council, the organization of committees has not been properly completed, drawing attention.

Although Choi Ho-jung, a member of the People Power Party, was inaugurated as the chairperson for the second half of the 11th term on the 1st of this month, the formation of standing committees has not been properly arranged, leading to much speculation.

There are rumors that the People Power Party will seek to take over the Education Committee in the second half, but it is expected that the outline will become clearer through official negotiations between the floor leaders of both parties on the 15th.

On the 14th, Chairperson Choi stated, “I am in talks between Lee Seong-bae, floor leader of the People Power Party, and Seong Heum-je, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea,” adding, “I have requested cooperation from the leaders to enable a swift organization of committees.”

Accordingly, it is expected that the outline will become clearer during the official negotiations between the two party leaders scheduled for the 15th.

Seong Heum-je, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the same day, “I am aware of various rumors,” and added, “I plan to meet with Leader Lee Seong-bae to hear specific negotiation proposals.”

The Democratic Party is known to hold the position that if the People Power Party wants the Education Committee, they must offer a corresponding committee in return, making the negotiation results noteworthy.

This reflects the stance that since there is no change in the composition of Seoul city council members, if no agreement is reached in the negotiations, it would be preferable to continue with the status of the first half term.

In the first half term, the Democratic Party of Korea held the chairmanships of the Education Committee, the Urban Safety Committee, and the Environment and Water Resources Committee.
