AI Technology Application Also Promoted for Module and Pack Design
LG Energy Solution has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) solution that can drastically reduce the battery cell design period from two weeks to just one day.
On the 14th, LG Energy Solution announced that it has developed an 'Optimal Cell Design AI Recommendation Model' that derives the optimal battery cell design plan in just one day when customers input their desired performance requirements.
Battery cell design involves deriving the optimal cell composition that meets the key performance criteria requested by the client, such as capacity, energy density, and resistance. Previously, designing a battery to meet customer demands required personnel in charge of battery cell design to repeatedly create multiple design drafts and derive expected performance through iterative processes.
However, the newly developed AI recommendation model can derive the optimal design plan in one go once the customer's specifications are input. Even including the process of verifying the design values generated by the AI, the design plan can be finalized within a day.
This AI recommendation model was created by leveraging LG Energy Solution’s experience and know-how accumulated over more than 30 years of responding to numerous clients and creating design plans. Using generative AI techniques, approximately 100,000 cell design plans were trained to develop the battery design algorithm independently.
LG Energy Solution plans to integrate the optimal cell AI recommendation model into its in-house cell development system as early as October to utilize it in battery cell design. It is currently being piloted. In the future, the company intends to apply this AI technology not only to battery cells but also to battery module and pack design.
