Donald Trump, the former U.S. president and Republican presidential candidate, was holding a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on the afternoon of the 13th (local time) when a shooting incident occurred. It has been reported that both the suspected shooter and one rally attendee died.
According to the Associated Press, citing the Butler County District Attorney at the rally site, "The shooter and a rally attendee died at the Trump event held in Pennsylvania."
Earlier, around 6:10 p.m. Eastern Time, multiple gunshots were fired while former President Trump was campaigning. Surrounded by security guards, Trump was confirmed to have blood near his right ear. Shielded by his security team, he raised his fist to supporters and left the rally venue. It has not been confirmed whether the blood near his ear was a direct result of the shooting or caused while hiding behind the podium. The Trump campaign issued a statement through a spokesperson saying, "He is fine and is being examined at a local medical facility." The U.S. Secret Service also released a statement saying, "The Secret Service has implemented protective measures, and former President Trump is safe," adding, "An investigation is currently underway, and additional information will be released when available." A White House official told the Associated Press that President Joe Biden has been briefed on the matter.
