Following the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' measures to revitalize marine waste recycling (December 2022), the two organizations plan to promote various collaborations such as constructing one public recycling collection center near Yeosu Gwangyang Port, developing upcycled products using marine waste, and holding contests to increase the recycling rate of marine waste to 20%.
Executive Vice President Hwang Hak-beom said, "Through this memorandum of understanding, we will take the lead in reducing marine waste and revitalizing recycling, contributing to the spread of a resource circulation culture."
Meanwhile, the Authority has been collecting plastics such as PET and waste ropes year-round for marine waste resource circulation and producing upcycled safety products such as safety fence blocks, lane control blocks, and safety vests.
