Yeongdeungpo-gu Selected as Finalist in Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Gonggam e Gadeuk' Contest... Secures 100 Million Won in National Funding 2024 Yeouido Spring Flower Festival Opening Parade

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it has been finally selected for the ‘2024 Data-Driven Regional Revitalization (Gonggam e-Gadeuk) Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute, securing 100 million KRW in national funding.

The ‘Gonggam e-Gadeuk’ project is a program where local governments, businesses, and residents collaborate based on data and digital technology to identify and solve regional issues.

Among the 63 local governments participating in this contest, 10 regions including Yeongdeungpo-gu were finally selected. The district will promote the project under the theme of ‘Analysis of Crowd Density at the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival Using Wireless Signal Scanners and Radar.’

Yeongdeungpo-gu has annually managed crowd safety at famous festivals such as the ‘Yeongdeungpo Yeouido Spring Flower Festival,’ which attracts up to 5 million visitors per year, and the ‘Seoul International Fireworks Festival,’ which draws crowds of up to 1 million people in a single day.

Through this project, unlike closed-circuit television (CCTV) that continuously records unspecified individuals, the district plans to develop a safety platform that collects wireless signals to measure and manage the floating population and crowd density of festival visitors. This platform will minimize the risk of personal information infringement and create a festival environment that anyone can enjoy safely and comfortably.

In particular, the district will operate a ‘Self-Solution Team’ project, involving various stakeholders such as local residents who have a deep understanding of the festival site, to reflect excellent opinions related to the safe hosting of the spring flower festival in the platform development.

The development of the safety platform is scheduled to be completed by November, and in the future, it will be linked with the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival website to provide real-time information on facility congestion and crowd density at the festival site, supporting visitors’ convenient and safe viewing experience.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “We expect that this platform development will enable accurate and efficient safety management such as crowd control,” and added, “We will speed up the project to ensure that everyone visiting the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival next year can enjoy the festival comfortably and safely without worrying about personal information infringement.”
