Leading the Spread of Single-Use Item Reduction Culture and Creating a Zero-Waste Government Building in Paju City Public Institutions
Eco-friendly brand i’m eco announced that it will operate a ‘Reusable Cup Circulation Service’ within the government office building in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
As part of the policy to reduce the use of disposable products within the government office, Paju City is promoting the ‘Activation of Reusable Cup Use within the Government Office.’ The reusable cup activation program, which started on May 13, involves placing reusable cup collection bins in the Paju City government office, with designated companies collecting the cups, strictly managing hygiene, and then reusing them within the office.
i’m eco has placed reusable cup collection bins at six locations within the Paju City government office and visits once a week on a designated schedule to collect used reusable cups. The collected cups undergo a six-step hygiene management process including pre-washing, ultrasonic cleaning, high-temperature high-pressure washing, and high-temperature sterilization, followed by inspection before being resupplied to the office.
i’m eco conducts hygiene inspections with a strict standard of 15 RLU or less, which is more stringent than the general private hygiene standard of 200 RLU. RLU measures the concentration of organic compounds on an object, with lower values indicating higher cleanliness.
Paju City and i’m eco aim to create a zero-waste government office by spreading a culture of reducing disposable products through voluntary participation of public institution employees, practicing eco-friendliness and carbon neutrality. To restrict the introduction of disposable cups within the office, Paju City supports the use of reusable cups at eight cafes around the government office and the Environmental Building, providing exclusive reusable cups for Paju City Hall.
i’m eco stated, “Through the introduction of the reusable cup circulation service within the Paju City government office, we will take the lead in creating a zero-waste office culture without disposable products through voluntary interest and participation, and continue our efforts.”
Meanwhile, ‘i’m eco’ is an eco-friendly brand of Wisycle Co., Ltd., a company that provides reusable container services and develops products through resource upcycling. i’m eco has experience providing reusable container services at large-scale festivals and local government events in Korea, including the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival, Wonderlust Festival, Joy Ol Park Festival, Art Forest Festival, and Seoul Park Music Festival.
For local government events, they have managed the Heojun Festival and Spring Light Festa in Gangseo-gu, as well as the Seoul Car-Free Jamsugyo Ttubok Ttubok Festival. Furthermore, this year they are also working to create a disposable-free university festival by introducing reusable containers at Ewha Womans University’s Daedongje Festival.
