Support for Customized Cooling Products for Heat-Vulnerable Groups Including Elderly Living Alone, Disabled, and Preschool Children
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) provided cooling supplies to vulnerable groups susceptible to heatwaves, including elderly living alone, disabled individuals, and preschool children, whose household income is within 120% of the median income.
For this heatwave preparedness cooling supplies support project, approximately 100 million KRW was raised through the Dongdaemun-gu Social Welfare Council, Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, and fundraising by the Hope Welfare Committees of each community service center.
Based on a preliminary demand survey conducted since May this year on whether vulnerable households had and operated cooling supplies, the district supported 120 air conditioners, 212 fans, summer blankets, and other items to those in need.
Each community service center visited the target households to deliver the cooling supplies and provided safety guidelines to help them prepare well for the upcoming severe heat following the rainy season.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "We will do our best to protect residents' health from the heatwave and ensure a safe summer. Especially amid rising prices, we will implement customized welfare policies for vulnerable groups facing double hardships due to the summer heatwave, creating a happy Dongdaemun-gu for all."
