YouTube Donation Kiosk Pledges Subscriber Count
With Subscribers Increasing, Donations Reach About 10 Million Won
LG Electronics Reviewing Support Measures from Various Angles
As an LG Electronics employee who pledged to donate based on the number of YouTube subscribers faces a situation where they must donate about 10 million KRW per month, the company has decided to consider providing support.
According to industry sources on the 10th, Choi Jeong-hyun, a senior employee at LG Electronics who runs the YouTube channel 'MZ Jeonja,' posted a video on the 4th stating that he would donate 1,000 KRW per subscriber using the company's donation kiosk. Without consulting his wife, Choi promised in the Shorts description, "I hope many people press it, and I will post a follow-up certification."
At the time of posting the video, the channel had only 38 subscribers, but the number exploded and exceeded 9,000 as of 6 p.m. on the 9th. Accordingly, he is now in a situation where he must donate about 10 million KRW to fulfill his pledge. On the 8th, Choi expressed his surprise on the YouTube community, saying, "I didn't expect things to get this big."
Choi said he would tally the subscriber count until 11:59 p.m. that day and requested help, stating, "If it gets too far from my monthly salary, it will be difficult to handle alone."
Upon learning of Choi’s situation, LG Electronics is reviewing support measures to ensure that the goodwill-initiated donation does not become a burden. Once the exact donation amount is determined, the company plans to find appropriate uses for the funds. They are also discussing the basis for support and specific plans.
Last month, LG Electronics installed donation kiosks to promote a culture of giving in daily life, enabling employees to easily and conveniently participate in sharing activities. The kiosk screen provides stories and usage plans related to families in crisis, children suffering from food insecurity, injured firefighters, and more. Employees can donate by simply tapping their ID cards on the kiosk, with no limit on the number of donations.
