Introduction of Advanced Terminal Operation Methods by Busan Port Authority
Benchmarking Port Management Expertise and State-of-the-Art Facilities
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Junseok) announced on the 10th that Carlos Arturo Bueso Chinchilla, President of the National Port Authority of Honduras, and his delegation had visited.
The delegation from the Honduran Port Authority visited Busan Port on the 9th to benchmark its advanced terminal operation methods and port management expertise, aiming to utilize these insights for the modernization and expansion of their own ports.
Honduras, located north of the Panama Canal, boasts excellent geographical conditions and is striving to vitalize trade through its major ports, such as Puerto Cortes and San Lorenzo.
For Honduras, which considers port development a key national growth strategy, Busan Port has become an excellent model for benchmarking and cooperation.
In 2015, the President of Honduras and the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure visited BPA to discuss port development cooperation and signed an MOU for exchange and collaboration. The following year, BPA partnered with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and participated as a consulting institution for the preliminary feasibility study of the Amapala port development project in Honduras.
Busan Port, ranked second in the world for transshipment and seventh for container throughput, continues to make innovative efforts through ongoing infrastructure expansion and the opening of fully automated terminals.
Based on its geographical advantages, Busan Port has continuously expanded its port and invested in facilities, securing abundant regular shipping routes and developing into Northeast Asia's largest transshipment hub, serving as a model for port development in many developing countries.
The Honduran Port Authority delegation listened to explanations about Busan Port's efficient operation methods, future development plans, and international logistics network, and toured the North Port and redevelopment areas to deepen their understanding of Busan Port’s development process and future plans.
BPA President Kang Junseok said, "I hope this exchange will become a new driving force for the development of both countries' ports," and added, "We will continue to cooperate so that Busan Port's experience and know-how can provide practical help for the modernization of Honduran ports."
