Incheon City will waive toll fees during weekday rush hours for the privately operated Wonjeoksan and Manwolsan tunnels starting from the 17th.
The city announced that it has established the 'Wonjeoksan and Manwolsan Tunnel Toll Support Ordinance,' providing a legal basis for free passage during weekday rush hours and holiday periods.
With the full toll-free implementation on Yeongjong and Incheon Bridge, the city aims to resolve fairness issues for inland residents and realize transportation welfare that citizens can feel by implementing toll-free measures. Additionally, the temporary toll exemption for Wonjeoksan and Manwolsan tunnels during holiday periods has now been institutionalized.
Accordingly, all vehicles passing through the two tunnels will be able to use them free of charge on weekdays from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. However, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are excluded. The toll fees for these tunnels are 400 KRW for compact cars, 800 KRW for small vehicles, and 1,100 KRW for large vehicles.
The city expects that 2.4 million vehicles using these tunnels during weekday rush hours annually will benefit from the toll exemption. The city will pay approximately 2 billion KRW annually to the private tunnel operators for this project.
The privately built Wonjeoksan Tunnel and Manwolsan Tunnel will collect tolls until 2034 and 2035 respectively, after which they will become toll-free.
An Incheon city official stated, "Waiving tolls during the peak hours when tunnel usage is highest is expected to alleviate road congestion through non-stop passage and improve transportation welfare that citizens can experience."
