Areas at Risk of Casualties: Landslide-Prone Zones, Steep Slopes, and Low-Lying Coastal Areas
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that it will repeatedly inspect areas at risk of casualties, such as landslide-prone zones, steep slopes, and low-lying coastal areas, until October to minimize human casualties from heavy rain and the monsoon season.
As of July, the city has completed repeated inspections of 314 disaster-prone areas and plans to continue these inspections until October to promptly address any risk factors.
Kim Sungkyu, the vice mayor, is conducting a safety inspection of construction sites in preparation for heavy rainfall.
In addition, to prevent safety accidents and damage at construction sites during the summer storm and flood season, the city will strengthen comprehensive safety inspections of major sites, as well as enhance field-specific monitoring of facilities.
Accordingly, on the 9th, Sacheon City Deputy Mayor Kim Sungkyu visited the Sacheon Hangong Grand Bridge construction site together with related departments such as the city’s road division, investment promotion industrial complex, and disaster safety division.
On this day, the deputy mayor instructed that measures be taken to ensure water flow or monthly oil flow at the construction site as soon as possible in preparation for heavy rain and the discharge from the Namgang Dam.
Meanwhile, to prevent flood damage caused by the discharge from the Namgang Dam, the city has established an evacuation plan for 20 areas at risk of casualties, including Chukdong-myeon, which includes designating evacuation routes for residents, selecting evacuation sites, and assigning evacuation guides in advance.
Deputy Mayor Kim stated, “To protect the precious lives and property of our citizens from summer storm and flood disasters, we will strengthen monitoring activities in disaster-prone areas and proactively conduct resident evacuations and preemptive controls.”
