'Botanic Garden Hwaseong' is a large-scale urban park development project covering an area of 1,778,000㎡, promoted by Hwaseong City during the 8th term of the elected administration. It includes Banseoksan Mountain as well as Yeoul Park, Jaramae Park, Keunjaebong Park, Osancheon Stream area, and the Woori Flower Botanical Garden.
After completing the basic plan for 'Botanic Garden Hwaseong' in August last year, the city has been pushing forward with the first phase project to build an exhibition greenhouse, a landmark within Dongtan Yeoul Park. The remodeling of the Woori Flower Botanical Garden is the second phase project and the first step in establishing the western Botanic Garden area.
The 'Woori Flower Botanical Garden,' located in Maegok-ri, Paltan-myeon, is a public arboretum designated by the Korea Forest Service that opened in 2010. It is planted with over 1,100 species of plants on a site of 128,312㎡. Through remodeling, the city plans to improve the aging facilities of the botanical garden and revamp it as a unique tourist resource distinctive to Hwaseong City.
The remodeling will target the botanical garden’s main buildings, including the comprehensive management building, the four-season exhibition greenhouse (two floors above ground), and the outdoor landscaping area. The city’s plan is to apply spatial designs that reflect the botanical garden’s identity through the design competition and introduce differentiated convenience facilities and experiential spaces.
The city will accept submissions until August 30, conduct evaluations, and announce the winning design on September 20. Following this, the design phase will begin in October, with remodeling scheduled for completion by December 2026. Additionally, the city is also considering a mid- to long-term plan to expand the Woori Flower Botanical Garden site.
Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, stated, "Through Botanic Garden Hwaseong, we will create a premium city where all 1.02 million Hwaseong citizens can enjoy leisure culture in a pleasant urban environment."
