Business Support and Youth Startup Centers Opened
Attracting 900 Billion Won in Investments for Industrial Complexes
Goryeong-gun (Governor Lee Namcheol) received the "Job Creation Grand Prize" at the 29th Korea Local Autonomy Management Awards ceremony held at the KINTEX Grand Ballroom on the 9th.
The "Korea Local Autonomy Management Awards," hosted by the Korea Institute of Public Autonomy, is an award given to local governments that have achieved outstanding results in regional development and innovation in local administration. It is recognized as the most prestigious and traditional evaluation of local governments conducted by the private sector.
Goryeong-gun received the highest score after a rigorous four-stage evaluation process in the job creation assessment, which consists of ten elements including employment maintenance, unemployment measures, job creation, women's employment, employment and entrepreneurship support, and self-sufficiency performance. The process included an initial document review, an on-site interview, a resident satisfaction survey by a professional research agency, and a final evaluation.
Since the 8th popularly elected administration, Goryeong-gun has been leading the creation of quality jobs by establishing a dedicated department for investment attraction and job creation. Despite challenging internal and external circumstances last year, the county secured future growth engines by achieving investment attraction results worth nearly 900 billion KRW through proactive sales administration.
Additionally, Goryeong-gun has established a foundation for "sustainable job creation" by operating customized employment and entrepreneurship programs through the opening of the Job and Youth Startup Support Center and the Enterprise Support Center, as well as by revitalizing traditional markets through the creation of the youth mall "Deulsseokgeori."
This is evidenced by objective indicators such as ranking first in Gyeongbuk Province for the real growth rate of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), third in per capita production, as well as winning three grand prizes at the Korea Regional Economy Awards, the top prize in the 2023 Gyeongsangbuk-do city and county job creation comprehensive evaluation, and the excellence award for investment attraction.
Goryeong-gun stated, "We will do our utmost to attract population inflow through job creation by fostering new local industries through the establishment of green bio material industrialization facilities, attracting mid-sized companies with the completion of new industrial complexes, building dormitories for agricultural workers, and improving working conditions such as environmental enhancements in industrial complexes."
