July 22: Professor Mo Jong-rin, the 'Alleyway Economist,' Holds Special Lecture 'Neighborhoods You Want to Stay In'
Fostering Creative Small Business Owners and Local Creators through Commercial District Incubating Project
Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will intensify the 'Commercial District Incubating (Development) Program' to foster commercial areas with sustainability and self-reliance.
This commercial district development program begins with a ▲special lecture on July 22, followed by ▲on-site training for small business owners and local creators, and then a ▲local creator group development project.
First, the special lecture will be delivered by Professor Mo Jong-rin of Yonsei University Graduate School of International Studies, known as the 'Alleyway Economist.' Professor Mo explores Korea's alleyways and local areas to discover unique regional stories and acts as a mentor helping local creators combine the area's natural and cultural characteristics with ideas to produce creative content.
In this lecture, under the theme 'Neighborhoods You Want to Stay In Are Rising,' he will introduce the current trends of 'local brands' and 'local creators,' and based on his rich experience and insight, discuss strategies for successful 'local business.'
The special lecture on July 22 will be held at 1 PM on the 7th floor of the Nowon Youth Life Center. Anyone interested in the local economy, including small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs, can participate. Applications open from July 11 via the 'Gongneung-dong 101' website or application.
The subsequent on-site training will be conducted based on a program developed directly by Professor Mo Jong-rin. The 'BLC Program' is a basic practical learning program that helps prospective entrepreneurs build their own business models using regionally specialized content they discover themselves.
Participants will undergo a systematic training course including ▲analysis of the Gongneung-dong commercial district ▲commercial district branding planning ▲case studies ▲business plan writing, enabling them to develop capabilities for successful startup and growth.
Applications for the training are open from July 22 to August 20, targeting small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs within the Gyeongchun Line Gongneung Forest Trail commercial district. Trainees will be selected through screening by the end of August.
Finally, small business owners and prospective entrepreneurs who complete the on-site training will also participate in the 'Local Creator Group Development Project.' They will act as mentors by providing education based on their practical experiences, including failures, successes, and know-how, to other prospective entrepreneurs. Prospective entrepreneurs can gain hands-on experience before starting a business by sharing ideas, operating mock idea markets, and producing startup prototypes.
Meanwhile, as part of a joint cooperation project with Seoul City, the district will conduct 'Brand Action Learning' for three months from August to November. Targeting small business owners within the Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail commercial district, this program supports brand analysis and branding strategy development that can provide practical help to small business owners, offers expert 1:1 on-site coaching, and provides 3 million KRW in actual expenses for brand advancement (action planning). Applications are accepted until July 21, and detailed information can be obtained by contacting the Branding Action Learning Secretariat.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “I hope small business owners and local creators strengthen their capabilities through this commercial district development program and grow into region-based brands. We will continue to actively promote various projects to revitalize the local economy.”
