Nowon-gu, Together with Korea Electric Power Corporation to Achieve Carbon Neutrality

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 8th that it has signed a business agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Seoul Headquarters to create a carbon-neutral leading city.

This is to establish a sustainable cooperation system between the two organizations to improve energy efficiency.

Through this agreement, the district plans to promote ▲ joint participation in carbon-neutral leading city project contests ▲ development of cooperative projects ▲ support for KEPCO energy efficiency improvement projects such as discovering targets for high-efficiency equipment support projects ▲ energy diagnosis and efficiency improvement projects for district-owned and operated facilities ▲ joint cooperation to build an energy self-sufficiency foundation in the urban area.

In particular, based on power usage patterns identified through real-time monitoring, carbon-neutral technologies suitable for Nowon-gu will be applied to create lifestyle changes for carbon neutrality together with residents, leading the way as a carbon-neutral city.

At the signing ceremony, Mayor Oh Seung-rok, Jeon Si-sik, head of KEPCO Seoul Headquarters, Shin Kyung-hyu, head of Nowon-Dobong branch, and other KEPCO officials attended and discussed the blueprint and development direction of Nowon-gu's carbon neutrality.

According to the currently established 'Carbon Neutral Basic Plan,' the district is promoting various carbon-neutral implementation strategies, including carbon-neutral redevelopment, applying Zero Energy Building (ZEB) grade 4 or higher for new public buildings, spreading renewable energy such as mini solar power generation, and supplying 7,000 electric vehicle chargers.

Additionally, among 98 metropolitan and local governments nationwide that applied for the carbon-neutral leading city creation project last year, Nowon-gu was selected as one of 39 preliminary candidate local governments and is accelerating efforts to be chosen as a final target site.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I would like to express my gratitude to KEPCO Seoul Headquarters for joining us in creating a carbon-neutral leading city in Nowon-gu,” and added, “We will continue to discover region-specific projects unique to Nowon-gu and do our best to become a leading model of an urban carbon-neutral city.”
