'Hot and Humid'... How About Taking Kids to the Library for an Outing?

Summer Vacation Programs Prepared at Icheon Hyoyang and Cheongmi Libraries

During the rainy season marked by repeated heatwaves and guerrilla downpours, 'libraries' are gaining popularity as summer retreats for citizens. With summer vacation underway, public libraries operated by local governments are offering various programs, attracting parents visiting libraries with their children.


Icheon City in Gyeonggi-do is drawing attention by preparing diverse summer vacation programs at municipal libraries such as Hyoyang and Cheongmi.

Hyoyang Library will operate 'Summer Vacation at Hyoyang Library!' and 'Summer Reading Class' for toddlers and elementary school students starting from the 27th.


'Summer Vacation at Hyoyang Library!' includes various reading culture programs such as ▲Story dramatization and play ▲King Sejong, a cultural leadership who loves his people ▲Book play - Let's play, summer ▲Book play - Mid-summer book play ▲Making transparent beach sling bags ▲Making miniature shaved ice shops ▲English fairy tales with Kimi ▲Learning four-character idioms ▲Glow-in-the-dark play performance 'The Rainbow Fish'.


'Summer Reading Class,' in collaboration with the National Library for Children and Young Adults, offers programs like ▲I love reading books ▲Spooky and thrilling children's SF fairy tale reading to foster self-directed reading habits.


Cheongmi Library will also run the summer vacation program 'Cheongmi's Summer' for local children from the 30th to the 14th of next month. 'Cheongmi's Summer' includes various themes such as ▲Gogo (GO 高) Math ▲Legend Story Time ▲Dungsil's Rice Cake Shop ▲Minhwa (民?) Coloring ▲Cooking Cook Jori Cook ▲Cooking English ▲Made in Cheongmi, covering not only reading but also art, cooking, English, and crafts.


Applications for Hyoyang Library programs start on the 15th, and for Cheongmi Library programs on the 16th, both available through the 'Icheon City Integrated Library' website.


Kang Seung-gyun, head of Cheongmi Library, said, "We will continue to prepare various programs so that libraries become cultural spaces where people can develop knowledge and creativity through not only reading but also diverse experiences."
