How to Develop the Gwangwoon University Station Area?...Special Lecture for Employees by Park Heeyoon, Head of HDC Hyundai Development Company Director Heeyoon Park of HDC and officials from Nowon-gu Urban Planning Department business trip to Japan

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on the 11th that it will hold a special lecture by Park Hee-yoon, Head of Development at HDC Hyundai Development Company (hereafter HDC), for its employees.

The district holds a monthly lecture series called ‘Insight Nowon,’ inviting notable figures to speak to its public officials. The purpose is to strengthen the capabilities of public servants by understanding rapidly changing social trends and issues, thereby improving the quality of administrative services.

Marking the second anniversary of the 8th elected term, the speaker for this lecture is Park Hee-yoon, Head of Development at HDC, who is responsible for one of Nowon-gu’s key future growth projects, the ‘Kwangwoon University Station Area Development’ project.

In this lecture, he will discuss ways to enhance regional competitiveness from the perspective of a ‘developer’ (real estate developer) under the theme ‘Buildings and People that Changed Tokyo,’ focusing on increasing the value of cities.

Park is the first Korean employee to join Mori Building, a leading Japanese developer, and has firsthand experience with successful urban regeneration and development projects such as ‘Roppongi Hills,’ one of Tokyo’s landmarks. After moving to HDC, he has incorporated know-how that pursues mutual growth between the development area and the project implementer.

Recently, in another lecture, Park stated, “In Japan, companies that survived the long real estate slump were those that thoughtfully considered the city and nation and created products based on the lives of actual urban residents, gaining continuous growth and trust.”

The Kwangwoon University Station Area Development project is considered a core project for HDC as well, with a total investment of about 4.5 trillion won and a recent announcement of the company’s headquarters relocation, demonstrating their sincerity.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu has also emphasized ‘coexistence between the community and the developer’ as much as the project scale in multiple media interviews regarding the characteristics of the Kwangwoon University Station Area Development. This development method, where the developer remains in the area after completion and directly participates in operations to enhance local value, will be applied to this project.

Since the first lecture in July 2023, when the district invited Professor Lee Dong-woo from Korea University to discuss preparing for an aging society, the district has consistently hosted notable figures on topics such as ‘Trend Korea 2024,’ ‘Understanding Local Commercial Districts,’ and ‘Leadership in Communication.’

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, “We are cooperating with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and HDC to ensure that the development of the Kwangwoon University Station Area becomes a new milestone not only for Nowon-gu and HDC but also for Korean real estate development,” adding, “I hope this lecture will serve as an opportunity for our employees to ‘jointly’ envision and build the future of Nowon.”
