Eight Leaders with Over 25 Years of Expertise Accelerate Customized Consulting for SMEs
POSCO Pohang Steelworks announced on the 8th that it has applied the new non-welded pipe connection technology developed by MegaJoint, a POSCO-supported venture company, for the first time in the renovation of its No. 4 blast furnace, marking a successful outcome for the POSCO Win-Win Growth Support Group.
The 'Win-Win Growth Support Group' is one of POSCO's flagship programs that provides customized consulting for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The group consists of eight POSCO veteran employees at the leader level, each with an average of over 25 years of experience and expertise in their respective fields, who visit SMEs facing technological or managerial challenges to provide tailored consulting support.
MegaJoint, the company that succeeded in developing the new 'non-welded pipe connection' technology with POSCO's customized consulting, was established in 2015. Its relationship with POSCO began in 2017 when it was selected as the top venture company at POSCO's 'Idea Market Place,' a program to discover and foster promising startups.
This company received funding through POSCO Technology Investment and has continued to grow through the venture nurturing program of the Win-Win Growth Support Group.
MegaJoint's 'non-welded pipe connection' technology was applied to the renovation of the No. 4 blast furnace at Pohang Steelworks, which held its ignition ceremony on June 27. This technology is a metal-to-metal pipe connection device that does not require welding and boasts 100% leak-proof sealing.
By using a dedicated tool for the Axial Swaging method to connect pipes, welding work is unnecessary, which prevents fire hazards caused by sparks. Additionally, even unskilled workers can complete a connection in just one minute, making the process three times faster than conventional welding work, which is the biggest advantage.
Hong Hyeonguk, CEO of MegaJoint, said, "The 'non-welded pipe connection' technology developed with POSCO's multifaceted support not only fundamentally eliminates fire risks associated with welding but also offers cost-saving benefits due to reduced work time. This technology is being continuously ordered not only by POSCO but also by major domestic companies such as Samsung and Hyundai, so we expect sales to exceed 10 billion KRW this year."
Launched in 2021, the Win-Win Growth Support Group plans to continue identifying and improving tasks for SMEs and venture companies in the Pohang area, including building smart factories, enhancing safety and energy, improving equipment and processes, and developing and innovating technologies.
