It was at the PGA Tour John Deere Classic (total prize money $8 million). On the 7th (local time), at the 4th round of the tournament held at TPC Deere Run (par 71, 7,289 yards) in Silvis, Illinois, USA, he shot a 7-under 64 to complete a dominant 4-stroke victory (28-under 256). This was his first victory trophy collected in his 63rd PGA Tour event since joining the regular tour last year. He received a winner's prize of $1.44 million (about 2 billion KRW).

Thompson also broke the tournament's lowest score record (257) set by Michael Kim (USA) in 2018. He secured spots for the upcoming Open Championship starting on the 18th and next year's Masters. He exclaimed, "I feel really good. I worked hard this year. My performance has improved since last month. I was able to win as a result of trying to maintain the momentum from the previous tournament."

Thompson led his first victory at the John Deere Classic with a combination of various weapons. He used a Titleist TSR3 driver (9 degrees), Ping G430 Max fairway woods (15, 21 degrees), Ping i210 irons (#4), and Titleist 620 MB irons (#5-9). His wedges were Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (46, 50 degrees), Titleist Vokey Design Wedge Works (54, 60 degrees), and his putter was an Odyssey White Hot OG #7. The ball was a Titleist Pro V1.

He showcased outstanding bunker shots and putting skills in this tournament. His bunker save rate was 100% (tied 1st), and his putts per hole when hitting the green was 1.54 (1st). He played without any weaknesses. His average driver shot distance was 307.70 yards (23rd), fairway hit rate was 71.43% (tied 25th), and greens in regulation rate was 81.84% (tied 7th).
