Dongseo University and Dong-A University, 11 Participating Institutions in Busan Utilize Field Campus for On-site Training
Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) and Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) signed an industry-academia-institute collaboration agreement with 11 participating organizations from Busan at 2 p.m. on the 8th at the Centum Campus Convention Hall of Dongseo University, aiming to establish a cultural and artistic foundation for Busan as a global hub city.
The institutions participating in this agreement include the Chief Designer of Busan City (Professor Na Geon), Busan Design Promotion Agency (President Kang Pil-hyun), Busan Cultural Foundation (CEO Lee Mi-yeon), Busan Research Institute (President Shin Hyun-seok), Busan Museum of Art (Director Seo Jin-seok), Busan Museum of Contemporary Art (Director Kang Seung-wan), National Maritime Museum (Director Kim Jong-hae), Busan Cinema Center (CEO Kim Jin-hae), Busan Film Commission (Chairman Kang Sung-kyu), Busan Textile Fashion Industry Association (Busan Fashion Biz Center, President Lee Sung-geun), and Museum One (CEO Song Min-chan), covering most public institutions in the cultural and arts sector.
The Dong-A University?Dongseo University Consortium and the agreement institutions pledged active exchange and cooperation for: ▲ collaborative classes and environment setup for problem-solving, field-oriented practical education ▲ joint R&D based on industry-demanded projects ▲ utilization and exchange of human and material resources ▲ business cooperation to establish a shared cooperation ecosystem. In the future, these will be utilized as field campuses to provide students with field-oriented education, in connection with the Glocal University Project and the Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) project.
The Dong-A University?Dongseo University Consortium, which has applied for the Glocal University Project?said to be the largest scale among government university support projects?advocates for an "open consortium university for building a regionally rooted innovation ecosystem." It received preliminary designation in April and is preparing an implementation plan for final designation.
The core of the open consortium university is the establishment of the UFG Campus, which utilizes all areas of Busan and the global stage as campuses. It aims to foster talent at five university (U) campuses where specialized knowledge driving Busan's strategic industries is created, field (F) campuses where learning experiences and training take place, and global (G) campuses that enhance international competitiveness.
This agreement is for the establishment of field campuses in the specialized areas of culture, arts, and design. The Centum Campus of Dongseo University, where the agreement ceremony was held, is home to the Im Kwon-taek College of Film and Arts and is symbolically significant as it is clustered with institutions in Busan's film, video, and design sectors.
Additionally, at the agreement ceremony, there was a unique event appointing Professor Na Geon, Chief Designer of Busan City, as a distinguished professor at Dongseo University. This reflects the Dong-A University?Dongseo University Consortium's commitment to recruiting joint appointment (JA) professors, emphasizing that educators who foster talent to lead strategic industries at field campuses should be experts with extensive field experience and a deep understanding of industry needs.
Jang Je-guk, President of Dongseo University, stated, "This agreement has become an opportunity to widely publicize that the establishment of field campuses by the Dong-A University?Dongseo University Consortium for the Glocal University Project is being achieved not only by universities but also through cooperation with related institutions and companies in Busan. The establishment of field campuses tailored to Busan's strategic industries will continue beyond the fields of culture, arts, and design. Furthermore, our implementation plan includes measures to open this innovative educational model to other universities so that even after the Glocal University Project ends, universities and industries can continue to work together to revitalize the region," urging continued interest.
