"I Chose the Clothes and the Seat"… ATEEZ's San Addresses Racism Controversy Directly

"My Chosen Clothes, My Seat" Explanation
"They Treated Me Well... Sad About the Misunderstanding of Racism"

San (real name Choi San), a member of the group ATEEZ, addressed allegations of racial discrimination after being accused of experiencing such treatment at a Dolce & Gabbana event held in Milan, Italy.

On the 7th, San clarified the controversy surrounding his unusual outfit and the absence of a cushion at his seat during a live broadcast. He emphasized, "It was not racial discrimination."

Previously, San attended Dolce & Gabbana's couture show Alta Moda (women's couture) held on the 2nd (local time) in Nora, Sardinia, Italy. While other men at the event wore suits, San wore a distinctive outfit, and only his seat lacked a cushion, which led to suspicions of racial discrimination.

San first explained about the outfit, saying, "Out of the 10 outfits prepared by the brand, this was the one I liked the most." He added, "It was an opportunity to show various sides of myself, and considering the show's identity as haute couture, Alta Moda, I wanted to take on the challenge." He continued, "I thought it was a modern and artistic cool outfit, and I was grateful to receive the main outfit from last year's show. I wanted to be recognized fashion-wise through a challenging outfit that was the complete opposite atmosphere of the Alta Sartoria (men's couture) outfit."

He also addressed the suspicion about the absence of a cushion at his seat during the event. San explained, "I sat like that. It was unavoidable because the person next to me was big-built, and I am also somewhat built. Since I am introverted and was sitting in a narrow space, I felt sorry and slightly leaned forward." San attended both the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria shows on the 2nd and 3rd. On the first day, he wore a top inspired by Baroque-style sculptures, wide flare pants, and patent derby shoes, and on the second day, he wore a formal white suit.

San continued, "I feel sad that misunderstandings keep arising (about racial discrimination). None of that happened." He emphasized again, "I brought back unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime, and I am speaking out because I worry about misunderstandings. Absolutely none of that happened. No misunderstandings, please." Rather, San expressed gratitude toward the event staff, saying, "Grandpa Dolce (Domenico Dolce) told me during dinner, 'Italy loves you.' He reminded me of my own grandfather." He added, "The head of the Korean branch also treated me well. They accommodated my schedule, rest, and things I wanted to do."
