Official Schedule Canceled for Emergency Inspection
"Residents' Safety and Lives Are Top Priority"
Cheolwoo Lee, Governor of North Gyeongsang Province, held an emergency situation assessment meeting at 7 a.m. on the 8th, in response to the third consecutive day of heavy rainfall in the region. He instructed relevant departments to "respond excessively thoroughly to prevent any loss of life" and called for swift action to prevent disasters.
As of 5 a.m. that day, the North Gyeongsang Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters reported that heavy rain warnings had been issued for Sangju, Yecheon, Andong, Uiseong, Yeongyang, and Yeongdeok, and advisories were in effect for Mungyeong, Cheongsong, Uljin, and the northeastern mountainous areas. Heavy rain is expected in several regions across the province.
Lee Cheolwoo, governor of Gyeongbuk Province (third from the left), visited the Gyeongbuk Provincial Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the morning of the 8th and instructed to thoroughly prepare for the heavy rain to prevent casualties.
Accordingly, Governor Lee canceled all official schedules for the day and attended the meeting held at the North Gyeongsang Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, where he received reports on the emergency situation and instructed thorough preemptive evacuations to prevent any casualties.
Previously, on the 6th and 7th, Governor Lee had issued special instructions to actively deploy the village patrol teams in North Gyeongsang Province and to immediately control and evacuate residents at any sign of danger. He also specifically checked once again whether residents in areas affected by last year's disasters had evacuated.
Meanwhile, North Gyeongsang Province has issued an emergency alert, actively deployed village patrol teams, and carried out evacuation measures for residents based on landslide prediction information. In landslide risk areas, 197 residents from 129 households were preemptively evacuated.
The province will continue to monitor weather conditions in real time, strengthen response efforts to prevent further damage, and maintain public information activities through SMS and automated voice notifications.
Governor Cheolwoo Lee emphasized, "We will prioritize the safety and lives of our residents and further strengthen our response system to prepare for and respond to various natural disasters such as heavy rain and heat waves this summer."
