Company that recovered bodies at the time of the accident charges fees
If cause is identified later, responsible party will bear costs again
It has been reported that the bereaved families of the victims who died in the reverse driving accident at City Hall Station were charged around 800,000 won for body transportation and on-site cleanup costs.
Recently, a post appeared on an online community regarding the City Hall Station reverse driving accident, stating, "During the funeral, the bereaved families were handed a bill for 800,000 won for body transportation and on-site cleanup costs at the time of the accident. It is a heartbreaking situation."
MBN reported on the 6th that the entity charging the fee was a private company that recovered the bodies at the scene on the 1st and transported them to the funeral home. The company explained in an interview, "We first collected the payment and then claimed it through automobile insurance, charging 800,000 won."
Immediately after the accident, President Yoon Suk-yeol gave an urgent order to "put all efforts into rescuing and treating the victims." However, the fire department cited internal regulations stating, "Emergency patient transport takes priority, and deceased transport is not conducted," and subsequently called a private transportation company.
As a result, the transportation of the bodies was delayed by about two hours. It is reported that the bereaved families at the funeral home received the bill in connection with this delay.
It is known that once the cause of the accident is determined and the responsible party is identified, the on-site cleanup costs will be borne again by the responsible party.
Earlier, on the night of the 1st, near Seoul City Hall Station, driver Cha (68) drove a Genesis sedan onto the sidewalk, resulting in 9 deaths and 7 injuries.
