"Building a New Art Market Infrastructure" ... 2024 Art Gyeongnam Hotel Art Show Held in Changwon

Changwon Special City, Emerging and Promising Artists and Creators from Across the Country Gather in Changwon to Create Spaces

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced that Art Gyeongnam is holding the '2024 Art Gyeongnam Hotel Art Show' at the Grand Mercure Ambassador Changwon from July 5 to July 7.

"Building a New Art Market Infrastructure" ... 2024 Art Gyeongnam Hotel Art Show Held in Changwon Deputy Mayor Jo Myungrae is giving a greeting at the opening ceremony of Art Gyeongnam.

The Art Gyeongnam Hotel Art Show is well known for selecting artists through a nationwide open call?a method rarely seen elsewhere?where promising artists from across the country are chosen based on bold works and collaborations across various genres of culture and art. The show is artist-centered rather than gallery-centered, and is recognized for its respect for artists.

By planning a vibrant art fair where artists stay in the region during the exhibition period and communicate directly with visitors, a new art market infrastructure has been established in Gyeongnam, moving away from the art fairs that are typically concentrated in the metropolitan area or megacities.

Celebrating its fourth edition this year, the 2024 Art Gyeongnam Hotel Art Show allows artists to present a diverse range of works by curating and managing their own spaces directly, without galleries acting as intermediaries.

Running until July 7 at the Grand Ambassador Changwon, the 2024 Art Gyeongnam Art Show features more than 70 artists and about 1,000 artworks in 54 rooms, with each room operated as a docent tour.

Deputy Mayor Cho Myungrae stated, "I hope the Art Gyeongnam Hotel Art Show becomes a dynamic art platform that discovers artists who are experimental and able to connect with new collectors," and added, "Changwon City will do its utmost to provide a foundation for enjoying various genres of culture and to guarantee citizens' cultural rights through cooperation with local art organizations."
