Hezbollah and Hamas Leadership Discuss Ceasefire in Gaza Strip

Lebanese armed group Hezbollah is reported to have discussed the ceasefire negotiation situation in Gaza with Hamas.

On the 5th (local time), according to local media, Hezbollah issued a statement saying that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah met with Khalil al-Hayya, the second-in-command of Hamas in Gaza.

Al-Hayya is known to lead the Hamas ceasefire negotiation team.

Hezbollah explained, "The two leaders talked about the situation and atmosphere of the negotiations that have taken place over the past few days, as well as proposals to end the attacks on Palestinians in Gaza."

In this way, the ceasefire and hostage negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which had been deadlocked for months, seem to be becoming active again recently.

Hamas has conveyed a new ceasefire proposal, which partially modifies the existing ceasefire terms, to Israel through mediators the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, and Israel has shown a positive response, accelerating the discussions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the dispatch of a negotiation team the day before.

On the same day, the U.S. White House announced that President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu had a phone call regarding the ceasefire negotiations. A senior U.S. government official stated, "We believe a quite significant breakthrough has been made that could lead Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire agreement."
