On the 5th, Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, met with Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, at the Government Seoul Office to request support for major ongoing projects.
The mayor focused on explaining the necessity of support for key projects including △construction of the Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 tram △operation support for the public children's rehabilitation hospital △road construction from Sajinggyo to Hanbat Bridge.
Due to the nature of the public children's rehabilitation hospital, operating at a deficit is inevitable, making personnel cost support necessary. For the tram, scheduled to begin construction in the second half of the year, and the road construction from Sajinggyo to Hanbat Bridge, which requires improvement of downtown congestion and securing arterial functions, national funding is needed for prompt progress.
Mayor Lee also requested exemption from the preliminary feasibility study for the ‘Daejeon Prison Relocation Project,’ which is hindering urban development due to east-west division, as well as support for the creation of the ‘Hoguk Bohun Park’ to secure surrounding infrastructure for visitors to the National Daejeon Memorial Cemetery and to establish a foundation for veterans’ culture.
Mayor Lee Jang-woo stated, “As this is an important period for the leap forward in the second half of the 8th term of the elected administration, I will do my best to secure national funding and resolve pending issues to ensure the smooth progress of major projects.”
