Biden: "Trump, a dictator who tried to overturn the election"
Trump: "Biden pants like a dog"
Trump also proposes unlimited debates with Biden
Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, who faced off in last week's presidential debate, engaged in another heated exchange on social media on the 4th, Independence Day in the United States (local time).
On that day, President Biden wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "On Independence Day, I thank the countless soldiers who are the foundation of the country called America," adding, "Their dedication reminds us that democracy is never guaranteed and that every generation must fight to protect it."
Opening with a post highlighting the value of democracy, President Biden continued, "Donald Trump tried to overturn the election, threatened retaliation after winning, and has wanted to become a dictator since his first day in office." Former President Trump had said in a broadcast last December, when asked, "Won't you become a dictator?" "Except for the first day. On the first day, I will block the southern border with Mexico and expand oil drilling."
President Biden criticized, "The Supreme Court has effectively granted him unlimited immunity," and added, "We must ask ourselves what will happen next." Earlier, former President Trump was indicted for inciting supporters to storm the Capitol after refusing to accept the 2020 election results. However, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that official acts taken by a former president while in office are protected from prosecution, granting partial immunity. As a result of this ruling, the sentencing date for the "hush money scandal" originally scheduled for the 11th has been postponed to September, signaling a green light for Trump's presidential campaign.
On the same day, former President Trump posted on his Truth Social, "Happy July 4th to everyone, including our highly incompetent president," and attacked, "(President Biden) used prosecutors to go after his opponents, panted like a dog during the TV debate, and made excuses blaming overseas schedules and a cold." He then referred to Vice President Kamala Harris, who is mentioned as Biden's potential substitute, as "our potential new Democratic challenger, respect," but criticized her as "terrible," mentioning that she dropped out midway after running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.
Following President Biden's disappointing performance in the presidential debate, calls for a candidate replacement have surged within and outside the Democratic Party, increasing pressure for his resignation. Although President Biden has strongly expressed his intention to complete the race, some predict that he must dispel concerns among his supporters through the Independence Day events and an interview with ABC scheduled for the 5th, or he may not remain in the presidential race beyond this weekend.
Meanwhile, former President Trump, who claimed a decisive victory in the presidential debate, posted on Truth Social that "the ratings for the first debate were record-breaking, but the format ruined everything," and proposed to President Biden, "Let's get on stage alone and have an unlimited debate about America's future."
