Lisa, a member of the group BLACKPINK, was revealed to have made a generous compensation in exchange for closing a street while filming a music video in Thailand.
On the 2nd, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that Lisa offered compensation of 20,000 baht (about 750,000 KRW) to nearby merchants in exchange for occupying Yaowarat Road, Chinatown in Bangkok, Thailand, for the filming of her new song "Rockstar" music video. This amount is known to be more than a month's salary in Thailand.
Earlier, Lisa completely closed the street from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. on May 3rd for the music video shoot. All nearby shops also suspended their business operations entirely. Although it was generally a time when shops would be closed, Lisa reportedly offered compensation to the shop owners for the inconvenience caused by the filming, such as disruption of business and noise. It is also reported that she offered 1,000 baht (about 37,000 KRW) to pedestrians who experienced inconvenience in passing through.
The "Rockstar" music video filmed on this street was released on YouTube on June 28 and recorded 32.4 million views within 24 hours. The video features Lisa standing alone or dancing in formation with dancers in the middle of the Chinatown street, with signboards lit up and no people around.
After the release of the music video, it has been reported that Thai fans and foreign tourists have flocked to the street. The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Bangkok city announced plans to utilize the location as a tourist resource by creating a walking tour course on the street due to the influx of crowds. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Mayor of Bangkok, said, "We thank Lisa for choosing Yaowarat as the filming location and making it a world-famous attraction."
Lisa, a member of the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, is from the Buriram region in northeastern Thailand and is known to be treated as a "national hero" in Thailand. In a survey conducted last year by Suan Dusit University with 7,398 participants, she was selected as the most influential person, surpassing prominent politicians and others.
