"Will Repay 100% of Debt to Leave a Debt-Free Administration"
Kim Dong-il, Mayor of Boryeong City in Chungnam, has pledged his commitment to a bright future for 'OK Boryeong.'
Mayor Kim, who was elected in 2014 during the 6th local election term, has been leading Boryeong City for 10 years, continuing through the 7th term in 2018 and the 8th term in 2022.
On the 4th, at a press conference marking the 2nd anniversary of the 8th term, Mayor Kim stated, "The past 10 years have laid a solid foundation and erected pillars upon it, and now the task remains to set up the beams connecting these pillars. To achieve this, I will run the remaining 2 years as if they were 10 years."
He added, "Over the past decade, we have implemented many policies and projects solely for Boryeong. Although there were some neglected areas during the process, we have never strayed from the core goal of building Boryeong’s future."
Among the achievements of the past 10 years are the Smile-Kindness-Cleanliness citizen movement, expansion of the entrance road to Daecheon Beach, relocation of Jungbu Power Plant, construction of road networks, opening of the Mugunghwa Arboretum, modernization of the Cheonbuk Oyster Complex, approval of the Mud Expo as an international event, and selection as a public-led offshore wind power complex.
In the latter half of the 8th term, plans include establishing a global marine leisure tourism city in the Yellow Sea era, creating hydrogen plants, and developing offshore wind power to build an eco-friendly future mobility ecosystem and a carbon-neutral green energy city.
He emphasized, "To fill the gaps and achieve even greater results, I will exert efforts surpassing the past 10 years. I will run as if it’s the first time and work as if it’s been 10 years, dedicating all my energy to realizing Boryeong’s value."
Mayor Kim also promised to repay 100% of the city’s debt during his term.
He explained, "The annual budget is about 1.2 trillion won, but financial difficulties are increasing as the city’s share of expenses rises. We fully repaid 73 billion won of debt from the 7th term, but incurred 30 billion won in new debt last year to match new projects."
He stressed, "I will repay all debts 100% within my term and hand over a debt-free administration to my successor."
