Members of the National Assembly affiliated with the Democratic Party of Korea and known as pro-Myeong (pro-Lee Jae-myung) are expected to head to Gwangju one after another.
This move has attracted attention as it is known to be a step to support Kang Wiwon, the standing representative of the Democratic Party of Korea National Innovation Council, who has declared his candidacy for the position of chairman of the Democratic Party's Gwangju Metropolitan City Party Committee.
According to the Democratic Party of Korea National Innovation Council on the 4th, a preparatory meeting will be held on the 5th ahead of the launch of the Gwangju Innovation Council. It is reported that Assemblyman Kim Woo-young, who was the party representative's political coordination officer and the first standing representative of the Innovation Council, and Assemblyman Kang Seon-woo, who has declared his candidacy for the Supreme Council member in this Democratic Party convention, will attend this meeting.
At the ‘2024 Gwangju Youth Sovereignty Talk Concert’ held on the 6th, comedian Dr. Seo Seung-man, who was the inaugural co-representative of the Innovation Council, will host the event, and Kang Wiwon, the standing representative, will attend as a guest.
Assemblyman Lee Jae-gang, Assemblyman Yang Moon-seok, Assemblyman Kim Dong-a, Assemblyman Mo Kyung-jung, and political commentator Park Jin-young are also scheduled to visit to show their support at this event.
Furthermore, it has been reported that key pro-Myeong lawmakers plan to visit Gwangju by mid-month to support and cheer for Kang Wiwon, the standing representative.
Earlier, on the 3rd, the second executive committee meeting of the Democratic Party of Korea National Innovation Council was held in Gwangju. Attendees included Im Se-eun, co-director of the Livelihood Economy Research Institute who operates it with Director Ahn Jin-geol as the representative of the Gyeongin region; Yeo Hyun-jung, a Yangpyeong County council member representing the central region; Park Wan-hee, a Cheongju city council member who was the first local council member to declare candidacy for the Supreme Council member, representing the Chungcheong region; Yoon Yong-jo, chief spokesperson of the Innovation Council representing the Yeongnam region; and Park Soo-gi, a Gwangju Metropolitan City council member representing the Honam-Jeju region.
It was reported that at this meeting, it was decided to make an all-out organizational effort to elect Kang Wiwon as the chairman of the Gwangju City Party Committee.
An official from the Innovation Council said, “There must be a reason why Representative Lee Jae-myung specifically said not to have the city party chairman in Gwangju be nominated by consensus among the lawmakers,” adding, “The collusion among Gwangju lawmakers who deny innovation and prioritize customs has become the reason why key pro-Myeong lawmakers are heading to Gwangju.”
