Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 4th that it will expand the coverage items of the ‘2024 Yeosu Citizen Safety Insurance’ operated for all citizens.

‘Traffic accidents while not riding’ refers to cases where pedestrians, including wheelchair users and users of recreational devices such as roller skates, suffer damage due to traffic accidents while walking.

The additional items will be payable for accidents occurring after June 10 of this year.

Previously, Yeosu City strengthened the citizen safety insurance by adding three items compared to last year, and as a result, Yeosu citizens are now covered by a total of 24 items under the citizen safety insurance.

The coverage amount is up to 20 million KRW in case of death or permanent disability, and it can be claimed in conjunction with other insurances that individuals have subscribed to, as well as other insurances operated by the city such as ‘Yeosu City Bicycle Insurance’ and ‘Liability Insurance for Public Facilities.’

Citizens registered in Yeosu City’s resident registration are automatically enrolled without any separate subscription procedures, and the insurance claim period is within three years from the date of the accident.

The insured person or legal heirs can file a claim with the insurance company, and for other inquiries, contact the NH Nonghyup Insurance Consultation Center at 1644-9666.

A city official stated, “Citizen safety insurance plays an important role in supporting the daily recovery of citizens who suffer damage from unexpected disasters and accidents, so we will strive to add coverage items every year.”

Meanwhile, since its first implementation in 2020, Yeosu City’s citizen safety insurance has paid a total of 680 million KRW in insurance benefits to 103 people.
