Jinju Mayor Cho Kyu-il Meets with Ambassador Cho Youngmoo in Lisbon

Request for Support to Develop UNESCO Crafts and Folk Biennale into an International Event
Cooperation for Global Expansion of K-Entrepreneurship through Jinju K-Entrepreneurship International Forum, etc.

Joo Kyuil, Mayor of Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, announced on the 4th that he visited the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Portugal, located in Lisbon, and had a meeting with Ambassador Cho Youngmoo.


This meeting took place during Mayor Joo's visit to Portugal to attend the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) Annual Meeting. Mayor Joo arrived in Lisbon after attending the 'UN Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day' event in Geneva, Switzerland, and signing a friendship city agreement with Tourette, France.

During the meeting, Mayor Joo explained the background of Jinju being selected as a UNESCO Creative City and as a chair city in the field of Crafts and Folk Art. He also discussed various strategies for the UNESCO Traditional Crafts and World Folk Art Biennale and for the global expansion of Jinju K-Entrepreneurship.


Mayor Joo stated, "I kindly ask for your active cooperation so that the Jinju UNESCO Traditional Crafts and World Folk Art Biennale can develop into an international event through ties with UNESCO Creative Cities such as those in Portugal." He also requested strong interest and support for the upcoming Jinju K-Entrepreneurship International Forum to be held in Jinju at the end of September.


Ambassador Cho Youngmoo said, "With the launch of a new direct flight to Lisbon in the second half of the year, the spread of K-culture content is expected to gain momentum. I will actively cooperate to ensure the successful hosting of the UNESCO Traditional Crafts and World Folk Art Biennale and the Jinju K-Entrepreneurship International Forum."


Meanwhile, Mayor Joo will attend the 16th UNESCO Creative Cities Network Annual Meeting, held in Braga, Portugal, on July 3 (local time), under the theme "Empowering Young Generations for Urban Resilience through Creativity and Innovation," as a chair city in the field of Crafts and Folk Art.
