Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province has been actively promoting the "National Mind Investment Support Project" since this month, providing psychological counseling services to citizens experiencing emotional difficulties such as depression and anxiety.
The support targets those recognized as needing psychological counseling at mental health welfare centers, university counseling centers, youth counseling welfare centers, Wee Centers/Wee Classes, or those who have obtained a psychological counseling opinion letter from mental medical institutions.
Additionally, individuals who score moderate or higher on depression (10 points or more) in the mental health examination during the national health checkup, as well as youth preparing for independence and children under extended protection, are eligible. Those who require priority psychiatric treatment due to drug or alcohol addiction, or severe mental illness are excluded.
Selected individuals can choose a service provider regardless of their registered address, pay a co-payment based on their income level, and receive a voucher for a total of eight one-on-one face-to-face psychological counseling sessions.
Applicants should prepare the required supporting documents that meet the application criteria and submit them by visiting the administrative welfare center of their registered residential district.
Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon, said, "I hope the National Mind Investment Support Project will provide citizens with an opportunity to overcome emotional difficulties," adding, "We will continue to strive to make Bucheon a city that cares for the mental health of its citizens."
