Warm concern and care from the local community are reaching low-income and elderly single-person households throughout Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su).
The 16 neighborhood-level Community Security Councils in Mapo-gu, which are resident network organizations formed to identify welfare blind spots and provide tailored support, have prepared various specialized projects and reached out to neighbors.
On the 24th of last month, Yeomni-dong (Neighborhood Chief Kwon Yoon-young) held a “Birthday Celebration Day” event to celebrate the birthdays of low-income children and youth. Members of the Social Security Council visited the homes of youth families, delivering gifts and celebration cakes and celebrating together.
In Daehyeong-dong (Neighborhood Chief Jo Se-won), on the 20th of last month, 20 elderly single-person households celebrating birthdays were visited, and birthday meals and gifts were delivered.
Mr. Lee Sang-gyo (pseudonym, 80), who received the celebration, said, “In my eighty years of life, I have never received such a birthday celebration. I am truly grateful and touched.”
Meanwhile, in Sinsu-dong (Neighborhood Chief Oh Sang-chul), to prepare for the summer heatwave, vulnerable households were visited and provided with fans and summer bedding sets. Resident Mr. Yeom Jong-hwan (pseudonym, 78) expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the cool bedding and the fan installation, I worry less about this summer.”
Support with side dishes for households living alone also continued. In Sinsu-dong, fruit and supplementary food were provided to 20 elderly single-person households, and in Yeomni-dong, kimchi and side dishes were cooked and delivered monthly to 34 low-income middle-aged single-person households, while checking on their well-being and providing seasonal safety guidelines.
Seogang-dong (Neighborhood Chief Jang Eun-kyung) also carefully took care of the health of vulnerable residents by delivering “Health Packages” containing meat and fruits and vegetables sponsored by Seogang Presbyterian Church to 30 low-income elderly single-person households or single-person disabled households.
Additionally, various neighbor-support projects are being carried out, including ▲ Gongdeok-dong’s “Gongdeok Ojilaper Living Together” ▲ Ahyeon-dong’s “Reliable Support Ahyeon’s House” ▲ Dohwa-dong’s “Making Happy Dohwa-dong” ▲ Yonggang-dong’s “All Season Yonggang” ▲ Seogyo-dong’s “Sharing Together” ▲ Hapjeong-dong’s “Getting Close in Hapjeong” ▲ Mangwon 1-dong’s “Happy Our Mangwon Neighborhood” ▲ Mangwon 2-dong’s “Crisis Discovery Happiness Project Mangtu Guardian” ▲ Yeonnam-dong’s “Lock & Lock Project” ▲ Seongsan 1-dong’s “Harmony, Together Seong1” ▲ Seongsan 2-dong’s “Seongsan 2 Smile Making Happy Neighborhood” ▲ Sangam-dong’s “Sangam Health Plus.”
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Thanks to those who send warm concern and care, the happiness temperature of Mapo is rising. Mapo-gu will continue to devote all efforts to discovering welfare blind spots through public-private cooperation and building a more thorough welfare safety net.”
