Kimhae Mayor Hong Taeyong Wishes for Success of National Sports Festival and Para Games ... Relay Challenge Begins

Hong Taeyong, Mayor of Gimhae, Gyeongnam, has taken the lead as the first participant in the challenge wishing for the success of the 105th National Sports Festival and the 44th National Para Games.

The relay challenge, which began on this day marking 100 days before the opening of the games, aims to promote the hosting of the two major events in Gyeongnam this October and create a festive atmosphere. The governor, mayors, and county heads in the province are participating through photos or videos.

On the 3rd, Mayor Hong kicked off the challenge by posting a photo on his social networking service (SNS) holding a sign that reads '#2024 National (Para) Games for Successful Hosting #SupportGyeongnam.'

Along with supporting the successful hosting of the two major events, he also participated in a promotional video for the three mega events in Gimhae.

The video was produced as a short (Shorts) parodying popular internet trends such as the Pokemon dance, featuring Baekdongi, the mascot of the games, and Todeogi, the character of Gimhae City.

The video can be found on the official YouTube channel Gimhae City TV and the official Instagram account of the games, gimhaesports2024.

Mayor Hong said, "I hope this relay challenge will help raise awareness of the two major games and spread a nationwide atmosphere of participation."

He added, "This year, for the first time, our city will be the main host of both the National Sports Festival and the National Para Games. We will do our best so that everyone can enjoy the three mega events along with East Asia Culture City and Visit Gimhae Year."

The 105th National Sports Festival will be held from October 11 to 17, centered in Gimhae, the main host city, across 75 venues in 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam, featuring 49 sports.

The 44th National Para Games will take place from October 25 to 30, with 31 sports held at 37 venues in 12 cities and counties during the same month.
