Relay Support Urging for Attraction of Dongnam Regional Nuclear Medicine Center and Others to Gijang County
Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on the 3rd that national research institutes and companies within the Southeastern Radiation Medical Science Industrial Complex participated in the 'Relay Event to Urge the Attraction of the KTX-Eum Stop in Gijang-gun,' lending their support to the campaign.
National research institutes and companies in the Southeast industrial complex are conducting a relay campaign to urge the attraction of KTX-Eum stopping stations.
The event was attended by major national research institutes within the Southeastern Medical Science Industrial Complex, including the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (Export-type New Research Reactor), and Seoul National University Hospital (Heavy Ion Therapy Center).
Researchers and employees from these institutes chanted slogans expressing their determination that the KTX-Eum must stop in Gijang-gun, wishing for the successful attraction of the station and fostering unity among participants.
Additionally, employees from tenant companies within the complex, such as JM Jeco, Hyowon Powertech, and Raon Robotics, also joined the event to support the campaign for the KTX-Eum station in Gijang-gun.
One researcher who participated in the event stated, "Due to the nature of our work, most related organizations and companies are concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area, so we inevitably use the KTX frequently. Whenever we travel to the metropolitan area, we have to drive to Ulsan Station, which takes just over an hour by car. I sincerely hope that attracting the KTX-Eum stop to Gijang-gun will resolve this inconvenience."
Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, emphasized, "Improving the transportation environment for national research institutes and tenant companies within the Southeastern Medical Science Industrial Complex is urgently needed. As the Gijang Heavy Ion Therapy Center, the southern region's hub for cancer treatment, will begin full-scale operation in 2027, we will do our utmost to attract the KTX-Eum stop and expand the transportation network in connection with the metropolitan railway."
Gijang-gun completed a feasibility study for attracting the KTX-Eum stop in 2022 and has been actively pursuing the campaign, including directly submitting a petition with 141,000 signatures from residents to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2023.
Employees of the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center are conducting a relay campaign to urge the inclusion of their station as a stop on the KTX-Eum line.
