Facebook Mentions 'Normalization of Impeachment, Warning Against Its Harms'
"Impeachment Shakes President and Government... Oppose Normalization of Impeachment"
To Democratic Party: "Return to Original Intent... Take Care of the People Like That"
On the 3rd, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon stated regarding the Democratic Party of Korea's move to impeach the prosecutor investigating former leader Lee Jae-myung's allegations, "Impeachments are being overused," adding, "The ones harmed by indiscriminate impeachments are the people."
Mayor Oh posted on Facebook a message titled 'The Normalization of Impeachment, Beware of Its Harms,' saying, "Who benefits from indiscriminate impeachment? Only leader Lee Jae-myung," and "Who suffers? Each and every citizen."
On the 28th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the opening ceremony of the 'Seoul International Finance Conference' held at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, and delivered a congratulatory speech. In particular, Mayor Oh expressed concern that "Impeachment shakes the president and government, preventing the government from focusing on supporting people's livelihoods." He continued, "In the midst of impeachment political strife, people's livelihoods disappear, and ultimately, the invisible damage is borne by the citizens and the people," asserting, "For this reason alone, I firmly oppose the normalization of impeachment."
He also referenced American scholar Gregory Henderson, who had diplomatic experience in Korea during the 1960s and described Korean politics as 'the politics of whirlpools.' Mayor Oh interpreted this as "capturing the fact that everything in society is swept away centered around those in power."
Addressing the Democratic Party, he emphasized, "The Democratic Party must return to its original intention and ask why it engages in politics. Politics is not to defeat opposing factions but to take care of the daily lives of the people," urging, "Take care of the people's daily lives with such dedication."
Earlier, the Democratic Party of Korea proposed impeachment motions against prosecutors investigating the Daejang-dong, Baekhyeon-dong, and North Korea remittance allegations, and also pushed for the impeachment of former Broadcasting and Communications Commission Chairman Kim Hong-il, leading to the resignation of the second Broadcasting and Communications Commission chairman under the current administration.
