"Dementia Symptoms Showing, Unable to Recognize Acquaintances"… Jeong Yura Appeals for Choi Soon-sil's Pardon

Pleading Again for Parole and Pardon
Also Revealing Account Number to Appeal for Support

Jung Yura, daughter of Choi Seo-won (formerly Choi Soon-sil), who is serving time for the Park Geun-hye government corruption scandal, has once again appealed for parole and pardon, citing her mother's early symptoms of dementia. On the 2nd, Jung posted on her Facebook, "I visited my mother, and she could not recognize the face of an acquaintance she was close to until last year." She added, "This acquaintance used to visit often and bring side dishes to the hospital last year, so there is no way she wouldn't recognize them. My mother couldn't recognize them until I said, 'Mom, who is this?' I want to believe it's a temporary symptom caused by strong painkillers, but my heart feels very heavy."

Jung said, "Will my mother only be able to leave when she reaches the point where she can't even recognize me? Every time this happens, I just want to give up. She gets so angry and tells me not to come anymore because she is sick and doesn't want to expect to leave, and I couldn't bear it, so I said, 'I won't come,' but on my way out, I cried for two hours again. I asked the doctor who treated my mother during her time at Dongbu Detention Center, and he said, 'This is not normal,' which weighs heavily on my heart."

On the 3rd, Jung posted again, saying, "I heard that my mother's recent frequent anger could be a symptom of early dementia, and I couldn't sleep all day yesterday. Please save my mother." She lamented, "Please save my mother. My eldest child really wants to see his grandmother. What if grandmother can't remember the child like this?" She also shared her bank account number, saying, "If I send my mother to the hospital, it will end up as begging."

Finally, Jung added, "I want to take care of my mother's health until August 15. I hope my mother will be released on August 15 so that I won't have to write posts like this anymore and can share ordinary daily life posts happily." Meanwhile, Choi, who was arrested in November 2016, was sentenced to 18 years in prison, fined 20 billion KRW, and ordered to pay 6.3 billion KRW in fines for charges including abuse of power and bribery. She is currently serving her sentence at Cheongju Women's Prison and is scheduled to be released in October 2037.
